Christo Yavachev
Gabrovo, Bulgaria 1935-2020
Yavachev Christo was born in Gabrovo in Bulgaria in 1935. He is considered one of the greatest exponents of Land Art (an artistic movement characterized by the direct intervention of the artist on the territory).
Thanks to her father, an expert in the textile field, she discovers various materials with which she will later carry out the works and related projects. His mother, on the other hand, pays the best teachers and architects to teach her son the history of art.
Christo is a skilled draftsman and, in order to make a living, he dedicates portraits to prominent personalities famous in the world of art and politics. Thanks to the support of his wife, Jean Claude, in the 60s he created packaging on everyday objects (bottles, typewriters, vehicles and much more). The goal of his art is to arouse curiosity and imagination in the viewer; to do this, it hides the object in a cover. After the project he completed in Rue Visconti in Paris, he will carry out other works in Switzerland and Italy, wrapping famous trees and monuments. Later he decides to go and live in America where in New York he meets the major representatives of Land Art.
His works are exhibited in prestigious international museums such as the Center Pompidou (Paris), the Stedelijk Museum (Amsterdam) and the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) (New York).
